How can the designer turn waste into something valuables ? DSAA Dissertation
This dissertation deals with differences and similarities between waste and something precious. Moreover, it deals with the way to value waste from consumer society without contributing to it. The consumer society has been seen as an utopia of abundant consumer goods. Nowadays, we realized depleting ressources and about our way of living that generates too much waste, by disrupting the biosphere. In order to fix this problems, products are recycled but still causing pollution. What if our waste was revalue for its material? What if the material itself could be useful to aesthetic and function? Can its added value lies in its history, the past of this waste, defaults on the material ? Thus, the waste can be valued by the luxury sector as the story behind a product is an important selling point. The luxury sector, using more and more depleting ressources could use sustainable design and up-cycling as an added value. Using luxury global reach, it could modify the idea of waste as something valuable thanks to its default and its history.
